The first calligraphy of the year is a traditional Japanese event held on January 2nd. Those who observe this tradition use brush and ink to write something auspicious with ink and brush on paper. It is the beginning of a calligraphy tournament held in various part of Japan. New year days are the biggest holiday in Japan, and there are many events celebrating the new year, such as new year’s visit to shrine to pray for peace and safety, or decorating a truck for the beginning of trading (Hatsuni). In this exhibition you will see art inspired with the essence of Kakizome.
