onetwentyeight is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by Antje Gummels, Hidden Layers.

Antje Gummels is an autodidact born in Germany in 1962, who perceives life as an ongoing creative process, and her works as a documentary of this exciting journey. She calls her style of painting “Inner Realism”. Lately, her life and paintings have become more and more carefree, joyful, and simple. In this new series, mainly executed with wax on paper, the emphasis lies on the hidden layers underneath playfully created doodles and colored spaces. These layers might symbolize experiences necessary to regain forgotten innate freedom on a more refined level. Antje's works are in 45 public collections (e.g. The Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art, The National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, The Fundacio Joan Miro in Barcelona, etc.) She had more than 30 solo shows and participated in numerous group shows and art events internationally.
