onetwentyeight is excited to present “You were the coolest thing in town that summer...” by the artist, Andrew David Ringler. The show will feature Andrew’s new oil paintings set in a fictional town in rural Ohio. The work is an amalgamation of real and fictional events. Andrew paints the characters and places in the town he grew up in. The cast of characters includes secret smokers, cool kids, goth kids, and the town bad kid named Vito. Andrew sets these characters amidst the backdrop of high voltage electrical wires, burned down trailer homes, detached garages, abandoned barns, water towers, silos, old pine trees, fish ponds, the Drug?Mart, and mud.

Andrew continues to develop themes relating to small town America. He “gets to wonderin’ that there’s a fascinating amount of intrigue in small towns, from the local folklore to the abandoned farm houses, forgotten and neglected on the side of Ohio’s desolate highways”. The works are a window into these small town people and places, all reflecting a certain moodiness that Andrew remembers from living in Sullivan, OH.

“You were the coolest thing in town that summer...” is curated by artist, part-time vegetarian, picker of junk and collectibles, dollar oyster expert, aggressive Yelper, kale enthusiast, fake scientist, art collector, and curator, Kaitlin Martin.
